EXHIBITIONMaking ProgressNew gallery space Make at Hauser & Wirth elevates craft to new heights…Occupying two rooms of a Georgian townhouse in Bruton, Somerset, Make is a new gallery space from Hauser & Wirth Somerset, dedicated to contemporary making and the crafted object. The new gallery will be curated by Jacqueline Moore, formerly of the Moore Gallery, with a remit to explore and celebrate the re-evaluation of craftsmanship within the artistic community.Opening on 28 September 2018, the inaugural show, Opening Narratives, features the work of seven makers, most of whom will be familiar to those who have followed Hole & Corner over the years (either in print or by attending our live events and workshops): wood artists Alexander Devol (aka Wooden & Woven) and Luke Hope, ceramicists Olivia Walker and Florian Gadsby (left), weavers Maria Sigma and Hannah Robson, and metalsmith Juliette Bigley. All blur the boundaries between art and craft – and highlight the often false divide drawn between the two. The exciting events programme will feature many works created especially for Make (and all available to purchase) – with a series of talks, workshops and community-specific events designed to engage the audience more directly. hauserwirth.com
